What is 3D scanning?

3D scanning measures the geometry of a real, physical object. A 3D scanner will provide an exact digital copy of virtually anything, including the whole palette of HD colors. This digital copy can then be exported as a polygon mesh file and be used in different computer-aided processes such as 3D modeling, computer-aided design (often referred to as CAD), computer-aided manufacturing or 3D printing.
